How do the listings work?
Once a honey is listed there are three possible outcomes:
1. Full asking price is paid for all or part of the listing.
2. An offer is made by a buyer for all or part of the batch listed. The seller has 72 hrs to agree or decline the offer.
3. The listing is withdrawn by the seller. A seller has the option of listing an entire batch or individual drums.
My honey needs to be tested – why is that and what tests do I need to submit?
For transparency. Buyers need to know that the honey they are buying is going to meet their needs. NZHX requires that all honey is tested and that samples are submitted with supporting documentation to back up all claims of quality and purity. We hold a sample in case there is ever a disagreement over what is sold and what is supplied. Ideally a full set of MPI marker and DNA tests should be done for multi or mono-floral Manuka, although as with other honeys, some buyers are looking to purchase based on pollen count too. We recommend providing as much testing as possible to increase your reach and to demonstrate transparency.
What does it cost to buy honey through NZ Honey Exchange?
A 3% success fee is added to the total purchase amount of honey bought through the NZHX. This amount is invoiced along with the purchase amount, and must be paid before the honey will be released.
How do I get paid for my honey?
If a sale is successful the buyer is invoiced for the total amount, plus the success fee. They transfer this money into NZHX’s escrow account where it is held whilst the seller arranges release of the honey to the buyer. The buyer has 10 days to evaluate the honey – if, after this time there are no issues, the money is released to the seller, less the success fee. .
Can I Buy Now instead of waiting for the Auction to close?
The Buy Now feature allows sellers to list their honey at a fixed price, avoiding the auction process and allowing an immediate sale. A seller can only list a Buy Now price before any bids are placed. And Buy Now prices can only be accepted by buyers before any auction bids have been placed.
Do prices include GST?
All prices listed on NZHX are quoted without GST.
Why do you need to verify who I am?
Making sure we know exactly who our members are is very important to us at the Honey Exchange. The verification process ensures that everyone with access to our honey auctions is genuine and traceable. All verified members are then bound by our Terms and Conditions – any breach of these terms could mean being banned from NZHX, or reported to MPI and/or the Commerce Commission, depending on the type of breach. In order for fair and proper honey trades, we insist on accountability.
What happens if the buyer doesn’t pay?
In the unlikely event that a buyer does not pay, we will personally make contact with them to discuss. If no timely resolution is possible, we will re-list the honey.
What if there is a conflict between the buyer and the seller after the sale has completed?
Please refer to section 15 of the Terms of Sale or section 12 of the Terms of Use for further information. We ask for a 1kg sample to be sent to us which we will hold in case we need to arrange independent tests outside those already provided. We also hold samples so that in the unlikely event of a post-sale dispute we can compare the sample honey with the honey received by the buyer. The NZHX is set-up to benefit both buyers and sellers so we feel that buyers and sellers alike won’t last long without integrity being upheld at both ends of the transaction.
How do you guarantee that the honey is what is being advertised?
The New Zealand Honey Exchange keeps a sample of every honey that is auctioned to ensure that the honey that is advertised for sale meets the same standard as the honey that is accepted by the buyer on completion of sale.
